SUMMARY OF JOB
Upgrades and maintains existing hardware and operating software. Installs new PC's
and related hardware and operating software. Investigates hardware problems and
performs minor system hardware and communication connection repairs. Diagnose
hardware and software problems requiring comprehensive knowledge of PC hardware
installation, repair, testing, and troubleshooting.

Responds to inquiries and requests for assistance with the organization's computer
systems or PC's. Identifies problems, troubleshoots and provides solutions to assist
users. Coordinates with other IT staff to resolve problems if necessary.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned or scheduled.

* Installs, repairs, and services computer equipment.

* Installs software applications.

* Assists in first-line user support on hardware, operating software, and enterprise
applications.

* Provides basic phone setup and support for office and cell phones.

* Upgrades, maintains, and troubleshoots hardware, software, and telecommunications
equipment used in support of departmental automated systems.

* Assists in maintaining computer equipment inventory.

* Provides support for software used by the Authority user community.

* Provides backup to Technical Support Analyst.

* Assists others in IT on various projects.

QUALIFICATIONS

* Working knowledge of MS Excel for data analysis.

* Ability to elicit cooperation from a wide variety of sources, including upper
management, contractors, and other departments.

* Ability to react to computer hardware and software problems promptly and

technical problems.

* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers,
employees, other Water Authority departments, contractors and the general public.

* Ability to work with minimal supervision.

* Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and/or technical journals,
financial reports and legal documents.

* Ability to write reports, correspondences and procedure manuals in a clear concise
manner.

* Must possess and maintain a good work ethic concerning attendance, punctuality,
positive attitude, meeting deadlines, being a team player and encouraging teamwork
among employees.

* Must have a solid working knowledge of computer hardware and networks, Microsoft
Windows for personal computers operating systems. Experience with the following
would be beneficial - Windows 11, Microsoft Office products, virtual private network
(VPN), file transfer protocols, antivirus software, firewalls, LAN/WAN infrastructure
and deployment tools.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Interested students must be enrolled and active in a high school or college curriculum
that is beneficial to both the student and the Water Authority. College students must
take a minimum of 6 credits in at least two out of three semesters for a total of 12
minimum credits per college year or be enrolled in a Graduate program.

CERTIFICATE, LICENSE, REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license or have the ability to obtain one within 30 days of
employment date. No more than six (6) demerit points on driving record if required to drive Water
Authority vehicles.
